Get Involved

Partnership working is central to Healthy Respect’s approach. No one organisation can improve young people’s sexual health single-handedly! And partner agencies bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job. Healthy Respect’s core team works to co-ordinate a wider partnership network. If you’re committed to the wellbeing of young people, you are invited to join the network.

Working together means sharing all of our expertise for the benefit of young people. If your organisation’s values are aligned with Healthy Respect’s, let’s work together. Here’s how:

Be a champion

Who: All Healthy Respect staff and any individuals committed to improving the sexual health, wellbeing and relationships of young people.

Responsibilities: To understand and promote Healthy Respect and the network; to conduct all work in a spirit of integrity, creativity and problem solving.

Benefits: Knowing you’re working together to improve things for young people; developing relationships with partners in the network.

How to get connected: If you would like to receive an e-newsletter to update you on developments in the network, email: healthy.respect@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk.

Become a partner

Who: Organisations committed to improving the sexual health, wellbeing and relationships of young people.

Role: Varied, but many will be involved in delivering sex and relationships education sessions, services and/or information to young people.

Responsibilities: To understand and promote Healthy Respect and the network; to subscribe to the guiding principles; and to undertake agreed projects as outlined in the Partnership Agreement. (Note: Partner organisations delivering an accredited drop-in service commit to consistently deliver the service in line with the all I want - LIVE Standards).

Benefits: Access to resources, training and political leverage; benefit from wider social marketing campaigns and website; participation in networking and joint-working opportunities; having your organisation profiled by Healthy Respect. Drop-ins benefit from wider promotion and ongoing review. Young people receive more accessible and consistently high quality services, information and education.

How to get connected: Interested organisations should contact Healthy Respect at healthy.respect@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk. Some benefits are only available to partner organisations operating in Lothian. Services interested in being accredited drop-ins can download a copy of ‘Healthy Respect drop-ins: A guide to accredited status and how to achieve it’ from Campaigns & Downloads.

Our Networks

Healthy Respect Lothian maintains and contributes to three professional networks:

Healthy Respect and Sexual Health Network: Biannual events provide an opportunity for Healthy Respect Lothian’s strategic partners to meet together. This includes partners with a lead for sexual health from voluntary and statutory organisations. The purpose of the events is to provide a forum for networking and debate, to share information, resources and influence the development of strategies/policies in relation to sexual health in Lothian.

Targeted Sex and Relationships Support Network: This network supports a range of professionals working with vulnerable young people who are not accessing sex and relationships education or support in mainstream schools. The biannual events offer specialist training in relevant areas, networking opportunities, support, resources and the sharing of examples of good practice.

Services Network: The network for professionals working in services has two components: one which covers the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian, and the other covering West Lothian. All multi-disciplinary staff working in Healthy Respect Lothian drop-ins, or partner agencies delivering young people’s drop-ins are invited to attend. Regular events offer networking opportunities and updates for staff on developments and policies relating to generic and sexual health issues for young people. The network also supports the implementation of the Healthy Respect Lothian all I want – LIVE standards.
