Where Can You Get Tested?

Where can all STIs be tested?

If you’re worried you might have an infection, or if you and your partner just want to get checked out, the GUM Clinic (Genito-Urinary Medicine) can give confidential advice and help, and can test and treat you for infections.

“I don’t feel like I need to worry as much”

In Edinburgh the GUM department is in the Lauriston Building, which is on Lauriston Place. It’s in the same building as the blood donor centre, opposite the Art College. When you get to the Lauriston Building, GUM is on the first floor (Level 1). You can make an appointment by phoning the clinic directly on 0131 536 2103/4. You don’t always need an appointment to attend GUM. Between 9am and 10am Monday to Friday there is a walk-in clinic (no appointment needed) for people with urgent problems. If you turn up during those times, you will be seen but you might have to wait a while. There is also a young people’s drop-in every Tuesday 4.00-5.30pm

In West Lothian, GUM is next to St John’s Hospital at Howden Health Centre, Livingston. The clinic times are Monday 6.00-8.00pm and Friday 1.30 to 3.30pm. Please phone 01506 464668 during clinic times for an appointment.

In Edinburgh you can also go along to the Family Planning Clinic at Dean Terrace for testing of most STIs and good advice. The young people’s drop-in is on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 3.30 – 4.30pm.

Is there an easy test for chlamydia?

All drop-ins and clinics can offer you a urine test for chlamydia – which is one of the most common STIs amongst young people. If you live in Lothian (East, West, Mid or Edinburgh) you can get a free postal testing kit for Chlamydia from Healthy Respect. You don’t have to go to a clinic at all for this.
