Training opportunities for staff and volunteers in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Sharing Good RSHP practice for secondary teachers working in East and Mid Lothian

This session is for secondary school teachers working in East and Mid Lothian to share good practice on the delivery of RSHP. The session will include local and national updates,  information on Healthy Respect school Drop-in’s and signposting young people to local sexual health services.

Young People’s Sexual Health: Core

Target audience: This training is for staff and volunteers working with young people in any context where an understanding of their sexual health needs is beneficial. We suggest participants attend this training prior to our other training courses where possible.

Content: Current sexual health issues for young people e.g. pornography, consent, inclusive approaches,
sex and the law, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and services.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of this training staff will have:

  • Increased confidence in supporting young people with their sexual health needs
  • Increased understanding of how gender stereotypes, media and social norms impact on young
    people’s sexual health and relationships
  • Gain knowledge of LGBT inclusive practice
  • Increased knowledge of current sexual health issues for young people (for example consent, pornography, and sexual health services).

Session details: We offer this training in-person and this will be a one day training (9.15 – 3.30) venue details will be provided when you register. We suggest those delivering education to young people about relationships and sexual health also attend the Confident RSHP training.

Confident RSHP (Relationships, sexual health and parenthood)

Target audience: This training is for teaching staff and those delivering sessions in school or community settings as part of a structured group work programme. We suggest participants attend young people’s sexual health: Core first.

Content: Delivering quality relationships sexual health and parenthood (RSHP) education and an
introduction to the national RSHP resource.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of Confident RSHP participants will:

  • Feel more confident to deliver RSHP education
  • Have increased knowledge of the evidence base and policy context for RSHP education
  • Have increased understanding of effective and engaging ways to respond to young people and create a safe learning environment
  • Be more familiar with the national rshp.scot educational resource

Session details: We offer this training in-person and this will be a half day training (9.15 – 1.00) venue details will be provided when you register. We suggest participants attend young people sexual health: Core prior to attending this course.

LGBT+ inclusive practice in youth and children’s work

This interactive session will increase practitioner awareness and confidence around LGBT+ identities and will cover:

  • Language and definitions
  • How to make your setting more inclusive with simple top tips for practice
  • Signposting to resources and a copy of the new resource Top Tips for Trans Inclusion in Youth Spaces

  • Thursday 1st February 2024 (in-person)
  • Thursday 16th May 2024 (in-person)
