The Contraceptive Implant (The Implant) is a soft stick put under the skin of your arm that stops you getting pregnant.

The implant is a small, soft, plastic rod the size of a matchstick.

It is put under the skin of your upper arm by a doctor or nurse.

The doctor or nurse will make the skin on your arm numb before they put the implant into your arm using a special needle.

The implant stops you getting pregnant for 3 years. After 3 years it must be removed and a new implant can be put in.

Some people have the implant to help with health problems like acne or period problems. Not everyone with the implant is having sex.
